Romy Reiner, the youngest daughter of legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, made a devastating discovery after rushing to her parents’ Brentwood mansion on Sunday afternoon.
According to a family friend who spoke to The New York Times, Romy was alerted when a massage therapist contacted the family saying no one was responding at the property gate. The 28-year-old, who lives across the street, went to the home with her roommate to check on her parents.

After opening the gate and entering the residence, Romy discovered the body of her father. She immediately fled the house, had her roommate call 911, and contacted Rob Reiner’s longtime friend Billy Crystal, the report said.
It was only after police and paramedics arrived at the scene that Romy was informed her mother, Michele Singer Reiner, had also been murdered. A source close to the family told the outlet that Romy did not see her mother’s body.

If found guilty, Nick Reiner (above) could potentially face the death penalty, authorities said.
Billy Crystal, who starred in Reiner’s iconic 1989 film When Harry Met Sally, reportedly rushed to the home with his wife and witnessed the scene, according to earlier reports.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that both Rob and Michele Reiner had been dead for several hours before being discovered, with rigor mortis already setting in. Court documents indicate the killings likely occurred in the early morning hours, long before the discovery around 3:30 p.m.
Romy told police that her older brother, Nick Reiner, 32, had been staying in a guesthouse on the property. Nick was arrested later that day and charged with the murders of his parents.

Romy rushed over to her parents’ Brentwood mansion when a massage therapist called and said they hadn’t received an answer at the gate on Sunday afternoon.
A source close to the family said there had been no immediate warning signs suggesting Nick was capable of such violence, despite his long-standing struggles with drug addiction and mental health issues. However, the night before the killings, Nick reportedly had a public outburst at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party, where witnesses described a loud and tense confrontation involving Nick and his parents.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Nick repeatedly questioned party guests about their identities and interrupted actor Bill Hader during a private conversation. When asked to leave, Nick allegedly stood silently before storming off.
Sources told The New York Post that Nick may have relapsed and refused further treatment after at least 17 rehab stints since his teenage years. A family friend said Rob Reiner had privately expressed fear that his son’s mental health was deteriorating.

Nick Reiner is expected to face two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances in what authorities have described as a deeply disturbing double homicide that has shaken Hollywood. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday but was not medically cleared to attend. A hearing is now set for Wednesday.
If convicted, Nick could potentially face the death penalty. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said prosecutors would consider the wishes of the family when deciding whether to pursue capital punishment.
While California law allows the death penalty in cases involving special circumstances, executions have been paused since March 2019 under a moratorium enacted by Governor Gavin Newsom.
