WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the attack on the Jewish community at Bondi Beach in Sydney today, describing it as a “purely antisemitic attack,” and said that Jews in the United States should not be afraid to celebrate Hanukkah.
“It was clearly an antisemitic attack,” Trump said during a Christmas celebration at the White House.
At the same time, the U.S. president emphasized that Jews in the United States who are observing Hanukkah should not fear for their safety.
“Celebrate proudly. Be proud of who you are,” Trump said in a statement to Fox News.
According to the latest reports from Australian media, at least 12 people were killed in the shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, where members of the Jewish community had gathered to celebrate the Hanukkah holiday. One of the two attackers was also killed, while 29 people were injured.
